As you may know, I’ve been out of action recently following major surgery on my throat and neck. On the 23rd of October I spent over five hours in surgery to have a malignant tumour removed from my throat as well as a lump from my neck along with all of the surrounding lymph glands too. I’ve just seen my consultant today and he’s told me that he’s extremely happy with my recovery and that I won’t need any follow up treatment because the histology results have confirmed that I’m cancer free. I can now slowly get back to normal.
This means that I will see you on a dance floor a lot sooner than I initially anticipated. I actually DJ’d last Saturday afternoon for Clockwork Orange at Koko in London to test the water because I was feeling great, it was an afternoon gig and I was able to get the train down and back in the same day. Everything went really well and I’m glad I did it. This means that I’ll see you this weekend in Shrewsbury and Ayr, next weekend at the Warehouse Project in Manchester and throughout December in Birmingham, Nottingham, Southampton, Wakefield, Glasgow and Halifax. Full details ticket info from my website Gig Guide.
I still have some swelling, pain and numbness after my surgery and the scars on my neck are still healing, but these are improving every day and I’m off the strong pain medication. I’m still learning to swallow differently and there are lots of things I currently can’t eat or drink because my throat and tongue are still quite raw. My voice and speech aren’t full back to normal either, so don’t expect me to be saying much when you see me out and about.
I recorded my Long Live House radio shows up to the 21st of November in advance but I’ll hopefully be back to normal for the 28th November show.
Thank you for all of your kind words and support over the past few weeks. They all mean a lot to me.
Finally, a massive shout to my amazing wife Jen, my son Ben and my extended family and friends for looking after me and helping me stay positive as I recovered from my surgery. Thank you also to the wonderful NHS and the amazing ENT team at Aintree University Hospital.
