On Saturday the 4th October I headed over to Todmorden in West Yorkshire, just 15 miles from Manchester, to play for Sonic Tonic at The Golden Lion. It’s absolutely ages since I last made this journey to the legendary Out In The Sticks at the Blue Note where I used to play in the 1990s.
Russ Marland was one of the people behind Out In The Sticks and Sonic Tonic is his night and he was DJing before me. As I expected, Russ warmed up the crowd wonderfully and the place was packed and rocking when I arrived. I was down to play an extended four hour DJ set and when I took to the decks at 11pm the atmosphere was electric.
The crowd were wonderful, open minded and right up for it. I had an absolute ball playing disco, house, acid, funk and more. I loved the whole night and the crowd appeared to share my enthusiasm too. Unfortunately there was a power cut around 35 minutes before the end which meant that we had to cut the night short despite everyone’s best efforts to rectify the situation.
Although it was a disappointing end to a huge night it did mean that we ended the night on a high with Dennis Ferrer’s “Church Lady” and thankfully everyone was very understanding. To make up for this Russ and I are already in discussions to lock down a return date in early 2020.
A massive thank you to everyone who came along top make this a very special and intimate night indeed.
